To create a room that is both visually beautiful and useful, interior design is an art form that takes careful thought and preparation. Even the most skilled designers can make errors that take away from a room’s overall appeal. In this blog, we’ll look at five of the most common interior design mistakes and how to prevent them.

1. Using the wrong scale

Scale is one of the key concepts in interior design. Finding the ideal balance between big and tiny components in a space is important. A room that has too many tiny objects might feel cluttered, whereas one that has too many furnishings can feel small. Combine different scales and proportions to create harmony. A varied layout of furniture heights, forms, and kinds adds visual appeal and keeps the space from becoming boring. Recall that choosing a single statement piece of furniture helps to maintain balance and center the space.

2. Wrong style and size of artwork

While artwork gives a room individuality and character, an improper piece of art might detract from the room’s overall visual coherence. Steer clear of tiny, insignificant elements that blend in with the background. Rather, choose bigger pieces of art that act as focal points and draw the eye. Try different locations and scale combinations until you have a harmonious area. Additionally, consider adding a unique element that makes your house stand out by personalizing your area with artwork representing your interests and life experiences.

3. Making Your Whole House One Color

You have to be able to live in your ideal house. That being said, you should not paint every accessible surface in your space in tones of one color. A matchy color palette is a dated trend that we hope never comes back. Combining different styles is enjoyable and gives your room depth and appeal. Additionally, it makes getting a new addition or replacing an existing one simpler. Just make sure you maintain a balance to stop your home from looking like a gallery opening.

4. Importance of the Entryway

When designing a home, a common mistake made by designers is to underestimate the significance of an entryway. The doorway is the first thing visitors see when they arrive at your property and the final item they take with them when they depart. Thus, you should show this entryway the love that it deserves. Display a classy work of art with excellent overhead lighting. Place a cozy area rug down. If the shelf and storage in your mudroom are part of your doorway,  make them creative. The doorway determines the overall tone of your house.

5. Overdoing Curtains

Curtains are essential to spaces. However, they are also quite useful. Because of this, choosing window coverings may go wrong in various ways. To create the illusion of height and space, drapes must be hung at the proper level in the room. Some people trim the curtain length at the half-window skill level, which makes the window appear even smaller and run-down. On the other hand, excessively long drapes droop and drag terribly down the floor.
