Just like an actor on stage has hundreds of moving parts and a team behind him, a well-painted wall will only make its debut if the preparations are done properly – and sometimes that goes all the way back to drywall. We LOVE the current trend toward open-plan living. Who doesn’t want wonderful large gathering spaces in their home? The only downside is that spaces with an open floor plan can typically feel cold and empty. One way to fix this is by adding texture to bring a little interest – and a lot of personality – to the room.
Texture can be added to floors, ceilings, walls, doors and windows. A wide range of materials can be used including reclaimed wood, natural wood, stone, brick, paint, metal, molding and more. Here are a few ways you can add texture to your home.
If you live in Florida even a few weeks out of the year, you know what a paradise it is – endless sunny days, breathtaking sunsets, and soft sandy beaches. Most of us in the Tampa Bay area were fortunate to make it through Hurricane Irma with minimal damage. There are so many things to consider when designing your custom home. Whether you are working with a designer or a custom home builder, doing a large remodel or building from the ground up, you have much to look at and many decisions to make. There is, however, one item that could be a good starting point in your home design – and indeed, may be one of the most crucial design items you select.
We’re talking about first impressions.
Do you want to make your house appealing before a visitor has even walked into your home?
One of the focal points of the exterior front of your house which contributes a lot to curb appeal is your FRONT DOOR!
There are many reasons for adding a second story to your home. You might have a growing family. Or you might need to remodel to create a multi-generational home. Or you’re setting up a home business. Or you simply want more space with extra bedrooms and bathrooms and you don’t have space to expand your first floor. Or perhaps there’s a good view you can enjoy from higher up.
With the wonderful balmy climate in the Tampa, St Petersburg and Clearwater areas you might want to extend your lifestyle outdoors. This may call for converting an existing bedroom or living room into an entertainment area adjacent to the pool. That means adding a story and putting bedrooms up there – with decks and balconies – to overlook the pool.
Sometimes, adding an extra story makes extra sense. If you like your neighborhood, why move? It may be tough to find another home that suits all your needs. Meanwhile, expanding your home vertically adds plenty of resale value.

The fun part of adding a story is imagining and planning the new floor space and thinking about Read More »

One of the first things anyone sees upon entering a home is the floor. Unique or distinctive flooring patterns can quickly provide a home with a luxury feel. Patterns of varying size tiles can be all it takes to lift a room to make it feel high class. Varying patterns, strips, colors or even a trellis pattern around each tile can make a huge difference.
The ceiling can provide a luxury feel to your home without huge effort. The design ideas are Read More »
