For most homeowners, the kitchen is the heart of the home. When it comes to your remodel, home addition or custom new home, it is likely the first interior element you will be designing. So where do you start? Here are some current kitchen trends that we LOVE, to help you get started with some inspiration.

This black-and-white kitchen was part of a whole home remodel and home addition we completed last year.

Black and White Kitchens

Black and white kitchens are really hot right now, and the dramatic contrast can be used in a variety of ways. You could combine black cabinets and white countertops, or go with black lowers and white uppers. For something really different, try custom black cabinets with subtle white detailing around the panels, or vice versa.

For even more pop, try adding black windows (such as the Pella architectural series) to your home. A white kitchen with a black island, black windows, and black light fixtures would also look great. And if you’re looking for something really unique, try a custom tile floor pattern with black-and-white or black-and-gray tile.

As you can see, the possibilities with these new kitchen trends are endless.

Brass Hardware

We LOVE that warm-hued metals are making a comeback! Designers have gotten really creative with hardware, creating many different lines to choose from. Geometric designs are really popular right now, such as pentagonal knobs and rectangular cabinet pulls. Cabinets look great with matching hinges and pulls.

You can have a lot of fun with hardware, especially if you have a roomier budget. In our experience, some of the most beautiful touches lie in the small details.

Splashes of Color

For something really unique but tasteful, try adding a splash of color to an otherwise simple kitchen. Bold colors are very popular right now. Try a blue island in the midst of a white kitchen, or a fire-engine red light fixture in your black-and-white kitchen. Bright, loud splashes of creativity are very welcome when it comes to home design!

This kitchen island was part of an award-winning historic home restoration we completed in Clearwater two years ago. It looks stellar in the middle of the white kitchen.

Unique Ceilings

Rather than plain-Jane flat white ceilings, current kitchen trends are leaning towards a more unique overhead to add more dimension.  If you have the height, you can add beams (such as the ones in the first photo above, which were reclaimed from the Belleview Biltmore hotel in Belleair).  For something less three-dimensional, try tongue-and-groove, bead board or even ship-lap.  This will add texture and warmth to the room.
